"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it." -John Adams

Welcome to Patriot's Lament. We strive here to educate ourselves on Liberty. We will not worry ourselves so much with the daily antics of American politics, and drown ourselves in the murky waters of the political right or left.
Instead, we will look to the Intellectuals and Champions of Liberty, and draw on their wisdom of what it is to be a truly free people. We will learn from where our Providential Liberties are derived, and put the proper perspective of a Free Individual and the State.

Patriot's Lament Feb 25, 2012: Challenge Political Law

In this episode we start off with a discussion of new FBI regulations on hobby shops and observe that all of the major TSA/FBI "busts" recently have been cases where the agencies themselves provided both the motive and the means. Additionally, after a very interesting call, we call in to question the possibility of all the police state measures being effective at accomplishing their stated goal.

In the second half hour we discuss with a couple callers the idea of political law as opposed to justice. There is no single, immutable "law" as we are commonly taught ... and to the extent that the state gains a monopoly on deciding what law is, consistency in both enforcement and judgement are greatly diminished. It is historically the case that the rise of political law itself (and the subsequent displacement of private law) brings about social upheaval. Thus, it is the state that destroys the natural order of an otherwise "anarchic" or "autarchic" society.

You can't do something positive until you understand the problem. You can't understand the problem when you're too busy trying to get something done to evaluate why it isn't working, why it didn't work in the past, why it can't possible give you the long term results you say you want.

Make the bureaucracy your friend. Tie it in knots.
