"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it." -John Adams

Welcome to Patriot's Lament. We strive here to educate ourselves on Liberty. We will not worry ourselves so much with the daily antics of American politics, and drown ourselves in the murky waters of the political right or left.
Instead, we will look to the Intellectuals and Champions of Liberty, and draw on their wisdom of what it is to be a truly free people. We will learn from where our Providential Liberties are derived, and put the proper perspective of a Free Individual and the State.

Patriot's Lament September 1, 2012: Tax Duty and They Will Not Learn

In this episode we talk about property ownership, and if we really have ownership, and we discuss the fallacy of "limited government"..  We ask if government charity is really charity if it involves theft to accomplish it, and a soldier calls to say the only presidential candidate that supported the troops was Ron Paul. We also point out that even little kids can see that government is evil.

  1. The difference between paying taxes and deploying is quite simple -- not many taxpayers are committing suicide because they did things that they can't justify nor forget.

There is no draft. Many of those in the military signed up because they were deluded into thinking it really is a force for good in the world. But now many of them know they're not fundamentally different from IRS agents with high body counts. What to do with that? Jesus told a soldier in Luke 3:14 not to use his position (heavily armed occupation force) to personally oppress the people he was occupying. Some people use that verse to JUSTIFY the job of occupying, but that isn't what was going on, in my opinion. "Be content with your pay" means not to enhance it by looting the people you're being there is oppressing. The soldier didn't have the choice to leave, he was compelled to be there, but he did have the choice about what to do while there.

  2. Excellent point! I have heard this argument just a few months ago by a person running for office, who happened to be ex military. Wow. Talk about a huge stretch. I guess it's pretty common to read into something to justify what you are doing.
