"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it." -John Adams

Welcome to Patriot's Lament. We strive here to educate ourselves on Liberty. We will not worry ourselves so much with the daily antics of American politics, and drown ourselves in the murky waters of the political right or left.
Instead, we will look to the Intellectuals and Champions of Liberty, and draw on their wisdom of what it is to be a truly free people. We will learn from where our Providential Liberties are derived, and put the proper perspective of a Free Individual and the State.

Local (Fairbanks) 3 gun shoot!

A listener to the show, Josh, has let me know that he and a group of friends have started a 3 gun shoot here in Fairbanks.
Right now they are getting together once a month. Anyone who needs to work on their shooting, and who doesn't, should look into participating if they can.
A 3 gun shoot includes shooting 3 different firearm types, a pistol, a shotgun, and a rifle, walking, jogging, or running through a course with various targets to shoot.
Semi-automatics are preferred. Josh also tells me he will let folks borrow his guns for the shoot, but asks that they bring their own ammo.
After a brief but important talk on firearm safety, he goes through the basics of the course with the group, and the fun begins!!
Their next meetup is going to be on the 6th of August, as of now.

So, if you want to sharpen your skills in a firearms, meet some new folks, and just have a good ol fun time, contact Josh at iccarus_effect@yahoo.com

Legalized Theft

I had a discussion the other day on the Patriot's Lament radio show on the word "theft." The discussion was about the city of Fairbanks upping the amount of forfeitures it needed to fill the gap in the city budget.
I claim that asset forfeiture is theft. A caller to the show said while I might think it is theft, the city council says it is not theft, as long as it is doing the stealing.
So if a city, State, or any legislature concludes that what it does is not theft, does that mean that it is not?
If I punch someone in the nose, can I claim that it is a nostril love tap?
If I murder someone, can I call it a long sleeping spell?
Can a body of individuals change the Law of Nature, to justify its perceived needs?
Is theft always theft?
If a starving person steals food from an open kitchen window, isn't it still theft? Whether the person who was stolen from wants to receive restitution from the thief is not the concern here. Whether the starving person really needed the food more than the owner of the food doesn't matter either.
It is still theft.
It's the question that is not really all that old: if a government steals, is it really theft? Is the State held above the Law, rather than to a higher standard of the Law?
I say it is not that old of a question because in the past, it was well known that even the King himself was not above the Law.
From William Blackstone:
"For as God, when he created matter, and endued it with a principle of mobility, established certain rules for the...direction of that motion; so, when he created man, and endued him with freewill to conduct himself in all parts of life, he laid down certain immutable laws of human nature, whereby that freewill is in some degree regulated and restrained, and gave him also the faculty of reason to discover the purport of those laws."

And the Founding Fathers of America saw it quite simply, from Thomas Jefferson:
"Man has been subjected by his Creator to the moral law, of which his feelings, or conscience as it is sometimes called, are the evidence with which his Creator has furnished him .... The moral duties which exist between individual and individual in a state of nature, accompany them into a state of society, their Maker not having released them from those duties on their forming themselves into a nation."

In other words, just because man leaves the State of Nature and joins others in the State of Society, he is still held to the same Law as he was in the State of Nature, such as, do not Steal.
The very reason man leaves the State of Nature to join society is to protect his very property from theft, among few other things.
Stealing violates the Law of Nature as its violator must take property that is not his from another person who has the rightful or higher claim to that property.
Simply being elected to an office does not grant the elected person special privileges, most certainly not the privilege to steal.

Otherwise this would mean that slavery would be legal and just. For we are talking about the very Right of Self Ownership when we speak of theft, and more so theft by the State.
If the State, or even some puny individual at a lowly city council, can steal from you legally, then that lowly city council claims ownership of your very body, and claims ultimately that you are its slave.

So, the real discussion over things such as asset forfeitures is not whether it hurts the poor at a higher percentage than others, it's not whether the State is too liberal in using the so-called law, it is not whether due process is violated or not, and I agree in the affirmative to all the above; the real discussion is whether or not it is theft.

And if it is, then this should be the focal point of our discussion.
It is theft.
Individuals using the State claim to be above and outside the Law, and choose to steal from their neighbors. They call it "legal" and the "law," but it is just theft, plain and simple.

                                                                       ______

Now I want to briefly speak to the Fairbanks City Council, that wretched gang of thieves, and enemy of a free people.
I am quite happy that you have been so forthcoming in telling the people of Fairbanks that you consider yourselves above the Law, and also that you consider the people of Fairbanks to be your slaves.
It has to be this, or otherwise you have to admit that you are simply thieves of other men's means.
The fact that you PUT INTO YOUR NEW BUDGET, additional monies you have not even yet stolen from us, through fines and asset forfeitures, by doing so you have opened many people's eyes to what you really are:

You are an enemy of the Poor.
You are an enemy of Justice.
You are an enemy of The Law.
You are an enemy of Righteousness.
You are an enemy of the People.
You are an enemy of God.

While Justice on this earth may not seem to always come swiftly, Justice will indeed come.

But don't take my word for it.

Whenever the Legislators endeavour to take away, and destroy the Property of the People, or to reduce them to Slavery under Arbitrary Power, they put themselves into a state of War with the People, who are thereupon absolved from any farther Obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence. ... [Power then] devolves to the People, who have a Right to resume their original Liberty, and, by the Establishment of a new Legislative (such as they shall think fit) provide for their own Safety and Security, which is the end for which they are in Society." John Locke

Government monopoly

I thought I would post an article from the Daily new minus, er, miner, the comments are going to be both telling and interesting I am sure.
And stupid, I almost forgot that, most of the comments are going to be from stupid people saying stupid things. I thought it would be fun to dissect it and maybe get a conversation in the comment section of this blog for once. ha.
Another great job by government dividing the people.
Fairbanks city clears the way for Borough utility monopoly.

Patriot's Lament June 23, 2012: Term Limits Encourage Destruction and Forgotten Founding Fathers

In this episode we touch on the impossibility of Limited Government, and government theft and monopoly. We also talk about the Schaffer Cox (241 trial) verdicts, and point out the flaws of the verdicts. We discuss thought crimes, and imagined crimes. We also talk about the need for the Jury to understand their duty to vote "not guilty" when a fellow American is brought up on trial by the state. We suggest that a guilty vote is a sentence that damns every American, even the Juror himself. We claim that in a Just society one should have the Right to Secede from that society, and talk about the Anti-Federalist, including Patrick Henry, and the "Father of the American Bill of Rights", George Mason.

Protect your rights by voting?

The people who live in the Fairbanks North Star Borough are facing another round of draconian "laws" by its Borough Assembly, namely to "ban" certain heating devices, such as certain wood stoves and hydronic heaters. Well of course, the movement is out to vote on a proposition that would prevent the Assembly from doing such things to us.
Again.
Every 2 years now, we are told we need to vote on a citizen's initiative to "prevent" the Assembly from taking our right to heat our homes in the way we see fit.
"Protect your rights!! Vote for your freedom"!!
The usual well-meaning folks are out in mass to get out the vote to secure our freedom.
But I will not give my consent.
By voting for this initiative, I am giving legitimacy to the Assembly, saying that unless I vote against them, they have the right to take away my Liberty, against my own property.
I am not a serf.
If I vote for this initiative, I am relenting to give them moral ownership of my property. I am gambling in this way, if my side wins, you can't do what you want. If your side wins, then I must give consent to you to restrict my freedom. I legitimize your claim.
I refuse.
The majority collective has no right to tell me what I may or may not do with my property, and I will not consent to let them.
I will stay at home, or perhaps I will bid on a contract, or maybe I will take my family fishing. But I will not bend my knee, to acknowledge to a few scum that they have the right to compel me, unless I persuade more people to compel them.
Let these 9 scum pass whatever law they want against my property. Do they have legitimate claim to it?
Absolutely not.
How much greater would it be, if the 55% or so folks who will go out and vote against the Assembly, would get off their knees, have some decent self respect, and stay home that day?
And when the Assembly's ordinance comes into effect, these same people refuse to consent to their tyranny?
They heat their home the way they feel they themselves need to, the most cost effective way they can?
Wouldn't they then be actually free, instead of having a 2 year waiver?
What would the Borough do? They have no police powers. Fine 50,000 people, who would then fight the fines in court, virtually bankrupting the Borough coffers?

If you feel you must consent to the authority of 9 people who have 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes, and are perfectly no different than you, go ahead and vote.
If you want to be a free man, if you want to be one who desires Liberty over servitude, a Revolutionary in the lines of your Forefathers that you claim to honor so much, stay home, and tell the Borough, whatever you may say, I refuse to consent to your whims.
The only way to be free is to live as free men. Refuse consent, and they instantly lose legitimacy. Without your consent, they cease to exist.

June 9 and June 2 Patriot's Lament episodes

Patriot's Lament June 9, 2012: Withdraw Your Consent and What Is Freedom?

In the first hour we discuss the power of withdrawing consent. Non-participation with the correct philosophical basis may be the most powerful way to render coercive power irrelevant.

In the second hour we explore the question of what freedom means. It can mean many different things to many different people, but some decisions seem to expand the horizon of our possible choices while others limit this horizon. If we look at freedom this way we arrive at some rather different conclusions than some who claim to be pursuing freedom. David also dispels the myth that a One World Government can be sustained for any meaningful period of time.

Patriot's Lament June 2, 2012: Stefan Molyneaux and Education vs. Schooling

Stefan Molyneaux joins us in the first hour to talk about the non-aggression principle, the "against me" argument, and the slow but steady march towards liberty throughout history.

In the second hour we discuss the difference between education and schooling. Could you become educated without any school? Could you not get any education with lots of school? We take a look at both of these questions.

Bill Fulton

Arctic Patriot has a few words to say about 'Ol William. Read it here, Sad Panda. Yes, he admittedly was being nice. :-)
Billybob o boy, don't tell us how you were just keeping your oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. LOL. That is a joke.
Then why are you working for the FBI? :-)
It's fact that you are a narcissistic liar, so.... are you telling the truth now? How do we know the Feds don't have something on you and you're just doing your "duty" so they won't hang you?
The 2 times I was unfortunate enough to have met you, you left with me a deep impression that I shared with my brother. That was, that you are a jackass.
You're a self-serving dog, William Fulton. I know there are recordings that for some reason haven't shown up in the hearing, recordings that you made. What about the film, Billy? When my brother gave you a piece of his mind?  That one must not have fit the "bil," huh Bill? Where you were told where to stick your plan and ideas?
Oh yeah, don't be fooled, they were Fulton's plans.
Oh, and you forget if you pulled your knife that day? Uh huh.
Well, I hope you are good buddies with the Feds now, cause they are the only friends you will ever have, and the only ones who will ever trust you, or do they?
You're the one who should be behind bars, you scum.
For the lives you have destroyed, I hope you live a miserable worthless life, for the rest of your days.
And may they be few.

Patriot's Lament May 26, 2012: Do you hate the state? Jeff Berwick does.

In the first hour Josh asks the question, "Do you hate the state?" We also discuss the morality of theft and the possibility that those whose ultimate goal is simply LESS theft and not the abolition of theft entirely stand on the same philosophical foundation as those who advocate for MORE theft. We challenge one of the callers on his justification for some stealing in certain instances (how much and when?).

In the second hour we have our first return guest Jeff Berwick. Jeff talks about how the state of affairs in the United States has evolved in the last few months, what the options are for Americans, and some of the services he offers to help diversify internationally. We also discuss living abroad and the freedoms that are enjoyed by foreigners outside the U.S. and especially Americans living as Perpetual Travelers or Permanent Tourists (P.T.s) outside of their home "farm."

May 5: Scared to Disobey and Russ Millette

In the first hour, Aaron and Josh discuss the fear of people to disobey the arbitrary rules around them, even when those rules are destroying their basic ability to survive.

They discuss this article from DailyAnarchist.com also:
http://dailyanarchist.com/2012/05/05/fear-and-loathing-manipulation-of-the-li...

In the second hour we interview the new chair of the Alaska Republican Party, Russ Millette and take calls so our listeners can ask him their questions also.

Life After Ron Paul and What Might Freedom Look Like?

In this episode we ask the question: What will happen after Ron Paul? So many are waiting for him to free them from regulations and draconian laws, but freedom is a state of mind that we must each discover within ourselves. The work of spreading the ideas of liberty and freedom are also not Ron Paul's responsibility, it is our responsibility as individuals.

As Butler Shaffer reminds us:
Freedom is a state of mind that each of us must discover for ourselves. In so doing, we will find that there is nothing that anyone in authority can do to make our world more peaceful orderly, or free. There are no institutional reforms, or ideologies, or more fashionable gurus to save us: such thinking only continues our sense of irresponsibility.

In the first hour we discuss how roads are already self-regulating and also the modern belief in magic that we call the "legal system."

In the second hour we discuss various aspects of what a non-state society might look like. We get bogged down in details now and then, but offer a few possibilities for how roads, defense, and things of this nature might be provided.

I again recommend to anyone interested in this topic to read The Market for Liberty as an introduction to this philosophy.http://mises.org/books/marketforliberty.pdf

Freedom in Mexico and Seth King on BitCoins

In the first hour David and Josh call in to discuss their discovery of freedom in Mexico (without trillion dollar wars to "keep it free").

In the second hour Seth King from DailyAnarchist.com discusses BitCoin, Anarchism, and the fact that so-called rights are not what make us free.

In the first hour Wake Up Call, Aaron and Josh discuss the American and Alaskan cows and how they do what the farmer wants. In the second hour they discuss the socialist oil dependency that Alaskans have growing on them like a giant tumor.

Fairbanks for Ron Paul

The parade today was a great success. Our Ron Paul float was awesome!! Michael Boldin from the 10th amendment center was on hand tonight and gave a great speech.
Good job and thanks to the Fairbanks chapter of Campaign for Liberty. These guys are the real deal.
