The State will gladly protect you from Freedom of Conscience.

For hundreds of years, western cultures have been refining what is known as Freedom of Conscience.
One of the outcomes of this refinement is Freedom of Speech, a Liberty that is relatively new to the human political experience.
Not long ago, being critical of a government, for instance, could get you killed by that government. Merely speaking out of turn or having critical thought towards the State religion meant torture or death.
But, we have advanced through time to understand that free thought and critical speech is something that a free people must protect and encourage. Thomas Jefferson went as far as to say that repressing Freedom of Conscience was a “Sin against God”.

Suppressing Freedom of Conscience though, was and is seen by the State as self preservation.

Today, we have access to information that only 20 years ago was other-worldly. Anyone with a cell phone can post a rant or share information to literally the whole world. Because of this information access, people take the information they get from the State influenced main stream media with a grain of salt, or immediately disbelieve it, and usually, rightfully so.
This is dangerous for the State’s propaganda machine, but the State realizes what is even more dangerous to it, would be for the State to appear to suppress it. Whether on the Left or the Right of the political spectrum, people tend to cherish what we now call, “Free Speech”, and rightfully so.

So what is the State to do? What States always do. Make the people fear their Liberty more than Itself.

Instead of immediately passing laws suppressing and/or silencing free speech, the State is manipulating the political fears people have to make them feel threatened by what they may think is opposing speech to their beliefs. And the fear the State has spread between opposing political speech has resulted in what not long ago would have been mocked as fairy tale superstition.

"Words can hurt you. People who disagree with you want to hurt you. You need your feelings protected against all invasion. Dissenting speech or thought is violence towards you.”

Instead of using dissenting views from our own to refine our beliefs and convictions, and to encourage discussion for the betterment of overall society, we are not only growing to fear Opposition of Thought, we want to be protected from it.

Enter the State.

From legislating pronouns, to aggressive threats of imprisonment for incorrect thinking, the State has moved in against Freedom of Conscience to suppress nonconformist. And some cheer this behavior by the State, seen to protect them from all harm. Others see it as a shield to advance their own political agenda opposition free.
 But, as Bastiat explained, while all wish to live at the expense of the State, the State lives at the expense of all.
No one's political or personal thoughts or actions, are safe from this aggression by the State. While the State will pick winners and losers in the short run, it’s only a matter of time before the State silences everyone.

Before you cheer the State for destroying your opposition’s Freedom of Conscience, remember when your opposition is gone, you will be alone, and no one will be there when the State marches you into the rail car that you have built.

Can I live it? Part 1 “Angry Joe”

One thing people tend to do, and I often do the same, is think of the world in the ought to be, and we imagine how things should be or could be, or just how we want it to be. When we talk through these things, whether it's economics, private property societies, (or voluntaryist society), we often project what we see as the perfect, without asking if we could live such a thing. I have read many writings on economics where after reading I think to myself, "well, this person has never actually ran a business", or, "this person has never actually had to deal with employees".

Some thing may sound great, but if it's not livable in your everyday life, then it's crap, worthless.

One of these things is something I have come across on Target Liberty, a site I read daily. I like the format and the author is someone I respect whose ideas make me think.

Except for one thing.

In his explanation of a Private Property Society, he says that in a true society such as this, that for there to be true justice, then everyone makes his own rules for his property. Of this I agree. If I invite someone over to my home, I may tell them, there is no smoking in my house, or stay out of my fridge unless you ask, or even something arbitrary, such as, if you come into this house, you have to stand on your head the whole time you are here, and if you don't, I will punch you in the face. While the last example is stupid, it's still livable if I instruct my guests to the rules before hand. I may never get any guests, but that doesn't matter.

The Target Liberty's author says that in his view, a property owner's rule over his property go beyond this. The following is an example that he uses, although I don't think he calls the subject, "Angry Joe".

Angry Joe has signs up all around his property: if you trespass, you will be shot. No excuses. He goes on to say that, even if a 5 year old boy wonders onto his property in some misadventure, Angry Joe can certainly kill the boy and is justified in doing so.

One of the justifications for this, is that even in the world we live in today, we stay away from the "bad" sections in town, and we don't let our children go to those places either. That's true, and it sounds great.

A real Private Property Society. Every man is king and tyrant of his own domain.

But can you live it?

Exactly how long will Angry Joe live, after he has shot the first born son of a young father who's whole life revolves around this boy? The father, in what I think would be righteous wrath, would destroy Angry Joe and everything he owns. Angry Joe would cease to exist. The Private Property Society would break down as sure as it was created, because humans cannot live this way.
If some things are always right, then some things are always wrong.

A lot of intellectuals can blather away on the perfect society and tell of the harshest of terms for that society, until they look into the eyes of their own child. They could not live it.

When you hear someone tell you that everything is relative, and nothing is absolute, then ask what's to keep you from taking a gun and blowing their head off?

No human with his head on even partly straight, can live this. And a community, or society, is itself just individual actors. If the single actor cannot live it, then the society most certainly cannot either.

Jordan Peterson's Biblical Sacrifice and Hans Hoppe's Time Preference: Part 3 - God's Blessing

A big part of the Cain and Abel story is God's blessing on Abel's sacrifice ... and God's lack of blessing on Cain's sacrifice. In the story, God tells Cain that:

"For whether you offer well, or whether you do not, at the tent flap sin crouches and for you is its longing, but you will rule over it."

Peterson takes this to mean that Cain's heart is not in his sacrifice. He is sacrificing for gain only. He is sacrificing with sin in his heart (ill intent, not good intent). He is trying to buy into the next ponzi scheme and be in early enough to win, and he's pissed that his brother who is doing the hard work is being rewarded.

God's blessing is only granted when the heart is in the right place. Intent matters. It matters more than material actions themselves. The world is made of meaning, not of stuff. This is Peterson's main takeaway from this part of the story.

Hoppe also highlights this truth, but in his own value-free way. He notes that societies that are free of oppressive state oversight will have a healthy culture of saving, capital accumulation, and overall honesty in trade. However, if the society is one of parasitism and authoritarianism (profit through exploitation and deception), time preference becomes very high and civilization begins to crumble. The sacrifice isn't from a pure heart and it will not receive God's blessing.

Again, it's the intent that determines the structure of the society. It's not the amount of accumulated wealth, it's the way in which people interact with each other. Is it through good will, or through deception? The world is made of meaning.

Conclusion:

The value-free axioms of classical economics and the meaning rich landscape of the Biblical stories reflect each other. Or, perhaps more accurately, we could say that our observations of economic behavior reflect the deeper realities of humanity as found archetypical Biblical stories.

Remembering that economic activity is an outgrowth of human nature, and not the other way around, keeps our thinking grounded and provides humility. It keeps the rational thinker from saying how things "should" be. It reminds us that for society to be better in the future, for it to be lower time preference, we must in our lives as individuals:

- Act with good intention (God's blessing is only for the pure in heart)

- Make honest bargains with our future selves (Make an honest bargain with the future)

- Sacrifice our immediate desires in each moment (That which you value most)

When we each live our lives in this way, the society improves as a natural consequence of our actions. No political action is necessary. All that's required to build a low time preference society that becomes ever more peaceful and prosperous is to clean up our rooms, a little bit more, every day.

Jordan Peterson's Biblical Sacrifice and Hans Hoppe's Time Preference: Part 1 - That which you value most

Jordan Peterson draws immense meaning out of the short story of Cain and
Abel in Genesis. One of the main concepts in this story is the idea of
sacrificing that which you value most, embodied by Abel's sacrifice of
his best animals.  Cain, on the other hand, sacrifices a pile of vegetables.

While both brothers offer sacrifices, God only finds favor with Abel's
sacrifice. It is a bigger (actual?) sacrifice, and it is sincere. Abel
is "all in" when it comes to foregoing present enjoyment for future (or
spiritual) enjoyment. Cain, on the other hand, isn't offering his best,
so can he be said to be truly sacrificing anything?

What struck me the first time I heard Peterson articulate the
evolutionary significance of humans learning to practice sacrifice (stay
tuned for Part 2) is that it is exactly Hans Hoppe's description of Time
Preference.

Hoppe notes that the basis of savings (and all of civilization) is the
willingness to sacrifice present enjoyment for future enjoyment. Even
better, in a honest system, this sacrifice results in MORE future
enjoyment than what is sacrificed in the present. Exactly as the story
of Cain and Abel describes.

Peterson could shorten his description of "sacrificing that which you
value most" by using Hoppe's simpler phrase of "the present moment" or
"present enjoyment". Perhaps the phrase "present pleasure" would be even
stronger.

Cain wasn't really sacrificing enjoyment by burning some plants, but
Abel was burning a delicious fatted calf that I'm sure was making he and
his brother's mouths water. Cain was sacrificing the present SUFFERING
of choking down plants, but Abel was sacrificing the present ENJOYMENT
of marbled steak.

There can only be one type of sacrifice - sacrifice of what you value
MOST, right NOW. Both parts are necessary or it isn't sacrifice. When
you have plenty of money, saving doesn't feel like a sacrifice, and it
isn't. You reap a reward measured in small percentages. But the reward
you get from taking the first step in saving the FIRST dollar, the act
of forming the habit, is the ENTIRE VALUE of the savings, not just the
interest.

I think this is a great video to watch. This really shows how the politically correct socialist try to trip up rightful thinking people. The truth isn't to be shared, according to the socialist.
Political correctness was a tactic of the communist party of the Soviet Union, to shut up critics, and to take out opposition, and it has found it's way here to the States, to great effect.
When debating, make sure you are right, and don't back down. Watch for word games, and be vigilant in your responses. But, as I said, don't back down.

Send the FAA to the Boneyard!

Ever since Monday I have been seething with hatred for the state-even more than usual. On Monday the FAA released a new regulation requiring the registration of “Unmanned Arial Systems” (UAS) weighing 0.55 pounds or more. This includes any toy or model aircraft that can be controlled, even if it's only flown in your yard. The FAA did say that this does not include paper airplanes. They seriously state that on their website. How did we get to the point that we now have to register our model airplanes? There are some modelers on comments sections thinking this is great because now, their hobby is legitimate. Now they can feel responsible and important, now that they can get another pat on the head by their master.

Compulsory registration of private property is a fundamental violation of property rights. Once someone is forced to register their property with the state, they no longer own it-they rent it. In this case, involving registration of drones and RC airplanes, the renter of what was once his property must provide name, home address, email and five dollars every three years. That doesn't sound like much. But the civil and criminal penalty is outrageous. The civil penalty is up to $27,500 and the criminal penalty is up to $250,000 and three years in prison. All of that for not registering a model airplane. So what if you register and in three years it expires and you forget to register or you crashed it and didn't report it.  Will some goon from the FAA show up and fine you or take you to prison? That is the risk that you take when you register. I wouldn't register in the first place- You'll be better off. If you are stupid enough to actually register your model airplane or helicopter, you have just given ownership of your model to the federal government and you paid them $5 to take ownership of it. Only the state could negotiate that kind of rip-off. 

The FAA claims that this regulation is about safety. They claim that with all drones and models being registered, they can easily find someone who causes damage to property and they can know who to fine and it will make people be more responsible. This is a nonsensical argument. If I cause damage to property with my drone, I am liable for repairs anyway, just as if I cause the damage with a rock when I throw it into an aircraft engine or through a window or into a sports stadium. By the FAA's logic we need to register all rocks with the FAA before we can throw them.  Bureaucrats never find an end to the list of regulations that would help us “be safe”. Bureaucrats also don't seem to realize that more government encourages people to be less responsible, a topic for another article. It won't be long before we are forced to register or cut off one or both of our hands for the cause of safety and national security. After all, a person without hands can't commit a mass shooting or fly a drone or throw a rock. It is unfortunate that so many people loose all capacity for rational thought as soon as a bureaucrat or safety officer shows up and employs the safety excuse on them. 

 Of course, like all bureaucracies, the FAA doesn't offer any sort of incentive for compliance, except they won't put you in prison or bankrupt you. Deputy FAA Administrator, Michael Whitaker, made the disgusting statement “Our real challenge is to get them to understand the rules and get them to comply”. That's right, get those tax cows to comply with our arbitrary dictates. Bend over, we got a broomstick for you. In a free society, that is one without a state, such a registration would be voluntary and the fee would provide an incentive, such as local RC airfields or at least a magazine subscription. Bureaucrats tend to be some of the laziest, least intelligent and least moral members of society and as such, they view all private property as theirs for the taking and convince themselves that paperwork makes us safer because they can't come up with a better excuse for the general looting of the public. This makes them, both, Liars and thieves. Unfortunately some of the public are even dumber than the bureaucrats and accept such ludicrous claims and even view them as a path to being praised by those who wish to rob them.  

In 2012 The FAA was tasked with coming up with drone regulation. The FAA formed a board from private organizations to “advise” them on these new regulations. One of those orginizations was the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Apparently the FAA didn't listen to anything they had to say because the Executive Director of the AMA, Dave Mathewson, who participated in the task force said education programs are the way to ensure safety, rather than a registry that will create “an unnecessary burden” on the group’s members.

Section 336 of the FMRA explicitly prohibits the FAA from regulating hobby aircraft that are flown within line of site. The FAA responded to the section 336 challenge by stating “While section 336 bars the FAA from promulgating new rules or regulations that apply only to model aircraft, the prohibition against future rulemaking is not a complete bar on rulemaking and does not exempt model aircraft from complying with existing statutory and regulatory requirements”. In other words, “We don't give a shit”. So even if you did get prosecuted for not registering your model airplane you could take it to court and win, after you loose your house to pay for the legal fees. This is how a tyranny (the state) works- it violates it's own alleged code of conduct and then just bankrupts the tax cow. After all, the state can get all the money it needs from the other tax cows to keep the case going. This is what happens to a people who have failed to properly define words such as the word “right”, which is another subject for another article. 

When the FAA was tasked with coming up with drone regulations and they were focused on drones used for commercial purposes, which is no less a violation of property rights. Again we see how regulation on one group becomes expanded to all groups. Clearly this is not about safety, especially considering the outrageous fines. One only needs to type “FAA funding” into Startpage to find the real reason for these regulations. The FAA routinely runs out of money and these fines are needed to keep the FAA bureaucrats employed. Back in September, they were granted a six month funding extension, in 2013, the FAA's funding was cut, resulting in ATC layoffs and in 2011 through 2012 the FAA went through 20 temporary funding extensions that resulted in partial shutdowns. The FAA needs money and like all agencies of the state, they will take it at the point of a gun, rather than operating in a peaceful market situation. The drone regulations and fines are just the FAA gasping for cash to survive. 

Back when I completed my private pilot rating, the FAA stated that their purpose was to promote General Aviation. After the 9/11 false flag they changed their stated mission goal to enforcing compliance to regulation. The FAA no longer even pretended to be interested in the rights of pilots or passengers. It is now only interested in advancing the cause of the state (public looting). At one time the FAA provided some good services and its employees really did try to provide quality services. But like all state agencies, the FAA became just another guaranteed pension for the dumb and corrupt. 

The FAA is mostly a regulatory body charged with the safety of air travel. But it's bureaucratic nature and inability to adapt make it a danger. It was only this year that the FAA upgraded from their old HOST system that was developed in the 1960's. The new system, called ERAM began development in 2002, was installed in the spring of 2015 and is a $2.1 billion part of a larger $40 billion project called NexGen that will have the air traffic control system upgraded by 2025. In other words, the system will be upgraded by 2025 with a system that is already outdated today. Would you find a private organization running air traffic control with massive, power-sucking antiquated computer systems from the 1960's when a smart phone and a cheap app can do the same job? Would you find private companies spending $40 billion for the upgrade? You can purchase smartphone apps that combine data from multiple sources for instant and exact locations of aircraft everywhere in the world. Finally, why must the airspace be run by one central agency when each airport and control center can run itself and communicate with all of the others instantly with modern technology? 

Clearly the FAA has outlived any usefulness it might once have had. It has become so narcissistic that it assumes it can control model airplanes and helicopters in your own yard and it is such a bureaucratic behemoth that it is only now beginning to upgrade from fifty year old technology to fifteen year old technology. It is time for the FAA to just die and be replaced by privately funded and operated aviation services. Take AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) for example. It spends millions of dollars every year just lobbying politicians on behalf of pilots. In 2014 they spent $2.5 million on lobbying. In 2013 they spent $2.83 million on lobbying. Why not get rid of the state and the politicians, then all of that money could go to AOPA airports and ATC systems that are far more efficient than the decrepit old systems the FAA still relies on. The FAA is just another pile of ruble in a crumbling nation that sacrificed the market. This is one more great example as to why we just need to abolish the state and allow the market to service our needs.

Default... ha, I wish

So the big lie right now is if the government doesn't up the debt limit, the government will default. The U.S. government that is. Actually, the big lie is that the U.S. government has shut down. Of course this is a lie, if the U.S. government had actually shut down, I would be posting jubilation to no end on this blog. But, of course, the federal government hasn't shut down. Think I am wrong, try defying a federal law in public. HAHA.
LIE.
The other LIE, is if the U.S. government doesn't raise the debt ceiling then the government will default.
 I wish.
If this were true, again, I would have posted at least 1000 posts praying for this.
The truth is, and if you listen to Peter Schiff at all you already know, the U.S. government already takes in 10 times the money it needs to not default every year in taxes alone.
But, that's not enough for the parasites, they want the tax money and the ability to borrow as much as they want to, so our great great great great grandkids will foot the bill. Don't think so? The British government is still paying on the debt incurred during the real first world war, the 7 years war, or the French and Indian war, of the 1750s. That 's a lot of greats in the grandkids.
Don't believe anything the State is telling you right now, (or ever) and don't fall for the Republican Fascists who are acting like they are on an all out warpath against Obamacare. The only thing they hate about Obamacare is that a Democrat created it.
Think about it. Medicare is 10 times worse, and G.W. Bush upped that little program to infinity, and cost the American people billions. And these same parasite republicans ALL voted for it.
OOPS, except Ron Paul.
So, rest at ease.
The best thing that could happen, seriously, would be for the U.S. government to actually default.
Not for the Statist Parasites, but for us, the hosts.
The longer they kick the can down the road, the worse it will be for a majority of our folks who are our neighbors.
Another little piece of friendly advice. Don't listen to Glenn Beck. I have been listening in the last few days, (although I am happy to say I shut it off after just a few minutes). Glenn is just as lost on the debt ceiling and default as your next door Keynesian neighbor you might have.
It is pretty sad. He has a huge following, and almost seems so close, but when you look behind his passionate Statism, you can see him for what he is. A Statist.

So, never fear. We who love Liberty should never fear what is to come from the ill choices of our neighbors and their collective mindset.
Stock up on some food, some silver, gold, bullets, and more importantly, stock up on some compassion.
The greatest thing a person who believes in Individual Liberty can do is to love his neighbor as himself.
Prove to the Statist that we don't need the State. You know, "What would we do without the State providing for us???"
Show them. Walk the talk.

The time IS near at hand, whether we will be free men or slaves.

I choose to be free. And I choose my neighbor to be free.

Pray for the end of the State; pray for your posterity, that there will be a U.S. default. Take responsibility now. I would rather fight the storms that are coming because of the decisions of my fathers now, than pass them on to my children.
If hard times are coming, let me weather them. 

Let my children live as free men and women.

Memorial Day

I pretty much can't stand Memorial Day. First off, I can't stand the State telling me what days I have to take off of work. Today is a nice day, and I could have got a lot of work done and made money doing it. I want to be the one who decides when and what days I take off work and enjoy life.

This year Memorial day irritates me more than normal. Why?

I have read a couple articles that have shown new lows for the American Idiot.

The first one was a "SEAL" that compared his fighting in Ramadi, Iraq to the colonial revolutionaries. He went on to say that America didn't get it's freedom from the Declaration of Independence but from "soldiers" who fought willingly because they believed in the "United States of America".
So America is also free because we attacked Iraq.
This SEAL is an idiot. And a fool.
To compare the war in Iraq to the War for Independence is so stupid I can't believe there are people who can believe that and still function in life, like even being able to feed themselves with a spoon.
Now, if he had compared the US to Britain during the War for Independence, he would be closer.
Obviously we all know we invaded Iraq in a war of aggression, nothing whatsoever to do with American Freedom, or Liberty. American soldiers in Iraq were the aggressors, the invading army, the tyrants.
We were not "freeing" Iraq. Killing innocent people doesn't count as freeing them.
The Colonials were not soldiers, they were farmers for the most part that would grab their knapsack with an apple and a piece of bread and head to battle to fire a few shots at the British and head home to take care of the chores. They were NOT fighting for the "United States of America", they didn't even know that term. They fought for their state and their home.  They were called terrorists by the British State, and by the definition of the term that the US government uses today, they most certainly would be terrorists today.
Oh well, I am going to stop with this one, cause it's just to stupid to think about. Except I did hear some Fox News "Memorial Day Special" on the radio today and the war for remembering this year was the war in Iraq.  There are millions of Iraqis who will never forget the soldiers who invaded their homes and killed their loved ones. Wonder if they will have a memorial day.

The next story I read today was some army surgeon who was asked about what he thought about Memorial Day. Well, this surgeon went on about how he is sad because he thinks about the ones who lose their lives or are maimed for life, and how many of these are America's "best and brightest." There is no remorse about war itself, or about the fact that these "best and brightest" were needlessly killed or maimed in a war of stupidity, nope. Just that America could have had these bright folks living today and who knows what wonderful things they could have accomplished if they were not dead. Not a word about the  cause of their death, and how stupid and wasteful it is, just that they are dead, like they were born into the military and automatically had to go to war and die.
American Idiots.
I am not celebrating memorial day. I will not worship soldiers, the military or the State. I also am not going to be silent about someone comparing the Iraq war with the American Revolution.
Americans, and especially the church-going people, love and worship the military, and think it can do no wrong, because people join it and die in war.
They are wrong to be warmongers and State worshipers. I think they are idiots to let the US government scare them into thinking they have to worry about a guy riding a goat in whateverstan coming here and blowing them up.
War is the health of the State. Being in the military keeps the State healthy. It has nothing to do with Liberty, any more than the war in Iraq did.
Pull your heads out of the State's butt and look around and think for yourselves for once. Fools, you are being used. Your rightful love of your country and people is being misused and abused by the State.
Stand up for the truth. Dare to say NO! The war is wrong, it has nothing to do with American freedoms, so let's quite lying about it and starting talking about the truth.  

 

Patriot's Lament March 9, 2013: Trillion Dollar Coin and Bad Medicine

In this episode we talk about the idiotic congressmen who actually thought that printing a trillion dollar coin was the answer to the U.S. debt. And people actually vote for these idiots. We go on to talk about government monopolies and how the services we get are dropping in value every day (although we pay more) directly because of government monopolies restricting competition in the free market.

What if it was your kid?

A good friend asked me the other day; " I listened to your show last week, but I have to ask you, what if your child was one of the ones killed, would you be all "due process" then?"
A hard question if you answer it honestly. And there are a few things to say here about the State and Justice, but that is another topic.
I answered, but asked him back," No doubt that is a hard question, but what if YOUR child was the one being accused?"
No doubt, you would be a believer in Due process.
Due Process is the one thing I think that separated the union of States from the rest of the world.
No one, not one, could be deprived of Life, Liberty, or Property without due process of Law. If found guilty, the remedy was there.
Strange how Statism has struck during this tragedy. Folks who are totally against the State and against Obama, decided that in this instance, they are full supporters.
Again I ask, where are the Sons of Liberty? The defenders of Due Process? The Libertarian? The Liberal? The Conservative?
It is a slow fade, a fading into totalitarianism, with the cheers of the above mentioned.

I hope, I pray, that there are still the Remnant, the Radicals as they may be called, who will stand and say NO!
