Charity By Force
Saturday Morning Wake Up Call (first hour) followed by Patriot's Lament. This week, Josh and Sam discuss the "forced charity" that is taxation and redistribution. As always, the callers spice up the discussion.
Please start a Hunger Games thread so we can list the number of parallels in it. I thought you guys had several good ones going, some of which I'd not considered.
I just wanted to echo the observation made at the beginning of "Saturday Morning Wake Up Call."
In 2004, I went to the Republican Caucus in Seattle. There was almost unanimous support for Ron Paul. On the way, there were bumper stickers, blimps, signs, etc., all in support of Ron Paul. Inside, I remember lines to sign-in for your candidate. The line for every other candidate was empty, but the line for Ron Paul went around the room.
When it came time to vote in our groups representing our precincts, one person in our group said, "Oh, well I'm a primary representative for our precinct, and our vote is for McCain..."
Of course, it's their party, and they can administer it however they'd like.
"What did we take from Japan and Germany? We didn't tax them." No, but by setting up the dollar as the reserve currency we indirectly taxed them, just as inflation of the dollar is an indirect tax on the citizens of the US, it is also a tax on Germany and Japan and other countries within the dollar system.
The point about how indirect taxation via 'world reserve currency' specifically is addressed at 16:30 but the whole thing is useful. It allows the domestic population to think of itself as a benefactor of mankind, not a dominator.
