"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it." -John Adams

Welcome to Patriot's Lament. We strive here to educate ourselves on Liberty. We will not worry ourselves so much with the daily antics of American politics, and drown ourselves in the murky waters of the political right or left.
Instead, we will look to the Intellectuals and Champions of Liberty, and draw on their wisdom of what it is to be a truly free people. We will learn from where our Providential Liberties are derived, and put the proper perspective of a Free Individual and the State.

Hunger Games

We talked about this movie on the radio program today, parallels to reality and such, and someone here asked that we have a discussion post about it.
So, here it is, discuss!

My favorite part of the movie was this, paraphrased: " Well, they have to have their game"... "No, they don't!"

*EDIT*  I think the quote was more,"They have to have their winner." All in all, the point was NO, they don't.

Stop giving permission.

Authority man

Thanks, Mike.

Earl Scruggs

Bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs, the father of the 3-finger picking style on the banjo, died yesterday. He will be greatly missed. I love bluegrass, and have always been in awe of Earl Scruggs. He was the main influence in me getting my own banjo.
He was one of those guys that was just a good man, from what I know of him.  I know he was very anti-war.

Youtube link.

RIP Earl, God bless you for what you gave us!

Charity By Force

Saturday Morning Wake Up Call (first hour) followed by Patriot's Lament. This week, Josh and Sam discuss the "forced charity" that is taxation and redistribution. As always, the callers spice up the discussion.

Anatomy of the State, by Murray Rothbard

More reasons to get your kids out of public school

From Lew Rockwell.com today :

But just putting kids on buses and taking them to other schools was not enough. During the drill, some students and school staff were instructed to pretend to be injured. In addition, parents were instructed not to call the school during the drill and children were instructed not to call their parents....

For example, during a terror drill at a public school in Muskegon County, Michigan, students and teachers were told that "homeschoolers" were the ones attacking them....
"The exercise will simulate an attack by a fictitious radical group called Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled. Under the scenario, a bomb is placed on the bus and is detonated while the bus is traveling on Durham, causing the bus to land on its side and fill with smoke.

Tom Woods on the free market

Tom Woods

Tom Woods of the Mises Institute gave us some of his time and wisdom today on the radio program (Thank you, Dr. Woods!!). I will get the program posted up ASAP; in the meantime, here is a speech by Tom Woods, or you can get these and more from the Mises Institute here. .

An evening with Tom Woods.
Here is another,"What war does". Or go to the Mises Institute for these and more.

Things we can do now, by Gary North

"Bukovsky spent well over a decade in the Soviet gulag concentration camp system in the 1960s and 1970s. He was arrested and sentenced in spite of specific civil rights protections provided by the Soviet Constitution – a document which was never respected by the Soviet bureaucracy. But once in prison, he learned to make life miserable for the director of his camp."

"The revolution was effected before the war commenced; John Adams wrote. "The Revolution was in the hearts and minds of the people. . . . This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments and affections of the people was the real American Revolution."

Andrew P. Napolitano on H.R.347

Says the Judge,"This abominable legislation enjoyed overwhelming support from both political parties in Congress because the establishment loves power, fears dissent and hates inconvenience, and it doesn't give a damn about the Constitution. It passed the Senate by unanimous consent, and only three members of the House voted against it. And the president signed it in secret. It is more typical of contemporary China than America. It is more George III than George Washington."

Just War theory

Here is a really good article I found on Tom Woods site.

We have to re-think our mindset of "anything America does is just" if we want to survive. Face it, folks, America is not guilt free. While I'm not a "blame America first" person, I can see a whole lot of evil that this country has done, and we need to stop. Allowing a select few to take us to war for the profit of a select few is evil. Flat out evil. We are not immune from wrongdoing, and we will be held accountable one day, of that I am certain.

If the justification for the attack were simply Iran’s imminent possession of nuclear weapons, then clearly neither the United States nor Israel would be in a position of comparative justice, since both have nuclear weapons as well. Even if the cause for war were the likely use of Iranian nuclear weapons against innocent civilians, this situation is a murky one, since the United States is the one nation that has actually used nuclear weapons against an enemy and, in at least one case (Nagasaki), against a civilian population center with no significant military installations.

I wish every American would take the time to read this. Including several "Christian" friends of mine.

Obama Signs HR 347

Adios 1st amendment.

New "anti-occupy" law

These goons just won't stop. They think so little of us serfs they don't even want to bother having to hear our voices. Whatever happened to the Right to Petition grievances? Have you goons not read about the colonists and king George?
Nah, that's too much trouble.

I tried to warn folks myself that even though I did not agree with much of what the Occupy guys stood for, I have to stand for their Right to Protest. I have to support their Right to Redress. I have to support their Right to Petition. Will we never learn that if you don't stand for your neighbor, no one will stand for you?
Do you think this law will just apply to Occupy folks? 'Cause if you don't find any reason to protest this government, you need to pull your head out!!!

Wake up!

The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.Thomas Jefferson

What do you think Jefferson was talking about?!

Ron Paul responds to Panetta

Today, Ron Paul responded to Panetta and his disregard for the Rule of Law.

Ron Paul comments on War Powers.

You won't hear anything from the 3 goons on this. They, like the King, want the power to go to war unchecked.

Quasi-War

Today a caller stated that the so-called Quasi war (Franco-American war) showed that Congress does not have to "Declare War," they can just authorize the Use of Force.
This has been used by some to claim the Iraq war was just, even though Congress never Declared War.

Here is an article on the subject. You should note that Congress's Authorization was not used as flippantly as it is used today. And America was under attack, which was not the case in Iraq.

Quasi War

Here you can actually read the Authorization from Congress.

An act to further protect the commerce of the United states

Thomas Woods had this to say about it:
Supporters of a broad executive war power have sometimes appealed to the Quasi War with France, in the closing years of the eighteenth century, as an example of unilateral warmaking on the part of the president. Francis Wormuth, an authority on war powers and the Constitution, describes that contention as "altogether false." John Adams "took absolutely no independent action. Congress passed a series of acts that amounted, so the Supreme Court said, to a declaration of imperfect war; and Adams complied with these statutes."
Consider an interesting and revealing incident that occurred during the Quasi War. Congress authorized the president to seize vessels sailing to French ports. But President Adams, acting on his own authority and without the sanction of Congress, instructed American ships to capture vessels sailing either to or from French ports. Captain George Little, acting under the authority of Adams' order, seized a Danish ship sailing from a French port. When Little was sued for damages, the case made its way to the Supreme Court. Chief Justice John Marshall ruled that Captain Little could indeed be sued for damages in the case. "In short," writes Louis Fisher in summary, "congressional policy announced in a statute necessarily prevails over inconsistent presidential orders and military actions. Presidential orders, even those issued as Commander in Chief, are subject to restrictions imposed by Congress."

Short read by Murray Rothbard

As was mentioned on the show today, a good read about our Nation's foreign policy, and those who benefit from it.

Wall street, Banks, and American Foreign policy.

Panetta claims U.S. war powers comes from international permissions

At least they are admitting it. We don't need no stinking Constitution!
The Constitution is trash to these people. They do what they want.
The consent of the people to govern is no longer a concern.
We live in tyranny. It's just that simple.

Albert Jay Nock

An excellent read, by Albert Jay Nock, worth your time.

"You do not know, and will never know, who the Remnant are, nor what they are doing or will do. Two things you do know, and no more: First, that they exist; second, that they will find you."

What we could have chosen...

What we have chosen.

“In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”
Mark Twain

Ron Paul takes.....3rd?

So we had our preference poll today here in the so called Liberty "individualistically" minded Alaska.
And Ron Paul takes 3rd.
While I don't think Dr. Paul is Jesus, I don't think he can wave a wand and make everything OK, 3rd?
This just cements in my mind the fact that the good ol' USofA is so screwed we don't even have a clue.

What we have to conclude is that the American people want more war, want more government intrusion. We love the TSA degrading us and humiliating us. We love the Patriot Act. We love the NDAA. We hate the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We want the government to take care of everything in our lives from cradle to grave. We enjoy the EPA destroying our economy with regulation. We love the fact that the Fed is completely destroying our currency and is stealing from us with inflation.
We are just fine with the government killing us without due process. We have no problem with the government breaking into our homes without warrant. We want perpetual war with the world. We love debt.

We love the big central government.

We will do nothing to change it.

We will continue to place the blame on the "other guy" while the new guy does us worse. We are the dumbest most blind sheeple in the course of humanity.

Nothing so great in humankind was ever given to any man as far as government is concerned than the one we were given 200 some years ago. And we not only have forgotten it, we have rejected it quite loudly.

This country is screwed.

Again, I don't think Ron Paul is a savior. But I would have some hope if I saw a large group of Americans cling to what he represents.
Liberty.
But we don't love Liberty anymore. Our Nation cannot even define it as a people anymore.
What is there to fight for? This piece of dirt my house sits on is no different than any other dirt in this world anymore. Why stay here?

Thanks, Ron Paul, for being a hero for Liberty in a world that hates it so much.

America, you're going to wish you listened to this man.  I predict you will wonder what hit you, very soon.

"My people perish for the lack of knowledge." God

McCain wants to bomb Syria

So brain dead NEO-CON McCain can't wait to kill more people. Even after the story that came out last week that Al-Qaeda of Iraq was involved in overthrowing Assad? McCain, I don't know how to put this, but I sure am glad you lost the election. Ol' John and the boys will want boots on the ground before you know it.
I am for having psychological evaluations done on all Congressmen, because these guys are so looney it is starting to worry me.

John Mccain wants to bomb Syria too.

John, just when will your blood lust be filled? Didn't you have enough of war and its horrors after Vietnam?

Seriously.

We are broke. It's not Constitutional. It's not moral. I AM NOT willing to put Americans in harm's way for Syrians and Al-Qaeda!! Johnny!! Wake up!! You would be helping Al-Qaeda!!! How many civilians would you kill when you are freeing them?

Are we as a Nation just completely insane?

McCain, go home and relax a bit.

Eric Holder to give rationale for assassination of Americans by the President

Eric Holder, U.S. attorney general, gives a speech today on why the President has the "right" to murder Americans without due process that was guaranteed to us by the bill of Rights. Those same Rights that all those in the government swear to uphold and defend. So, if they break that oath, are we obligated to obey anything they command? Don't they give up the Right to govern when they break their oath to us? Aren't we supposed to be the ones who consent to be governed, and on the basis that our Rights are not to be infringed upon?
Is this government legitimate?

http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2012/03/05/holder-targeting-american-terrorists-not-assasination/

The people cannot delegate to government the power to do anything which would be unlawful for them to do themselves. ... whenever the Legislators endeavor to take away, and destroy the Property of the People, or to reduce them to Slavery under Arbitrary Power, they put themselves into a state of War with the People, who are thereupon absolved from any farther Obedience, and are left to the common Refuge, which God hath provided for all Men, against Force and Violence. John Locke

Down with the Presidency!

Lew Rockwell, founder and Chairman of the Ludwig von Mises Institute, discusses his classic speech “Down With the Presidency;” how state-worshiping Americans have allowed the office of the president to become an elected dictatorship; the spectacle of presidential travel, where entire cities are shut down during a visit from our “god-king” imperial president and his enormous entourage; how the Ron Paul Revolution is winning the hearts and minds of young people the world over; prospects for liberty beyond the 2012 Republican National Convention; and how Paul is removing the “60s leftist” stigma from antiwar activism.

Will Grigg on Chris Kyle

Writes Will Grigg
Kyle not only failed to display genuine courage in Iraq, but was incapable of recognizing it when it was exhibited by desperate patriots seeking to evict the armed foreigners who had invaded and occupied their country.

The insurgents who fought the American invasion (and the few “allied” troops representing governments that had been bribed or brow-beaten into collaborating in that crime) were sub-human “savages” and “cowards,” according to Kyle.

“Savage, despicable evil,” writes Kyle. “That’s what we were fighting in Iraq…. People ask me all the time, `How many people have you killed?’... The number is not important to me. I only wish I had killed more. Not for bragging rights, but because I believe the world is a better place without savages out there taking American lives.”

None of the American military personnel whose lives were wasted in Iraq had to die there, because none of them had any legitimate reason to be there. From Kyle’s perspective, however, only incorrigibly “evil” people would object once their country had been designated the target of one of Washington’s frequent outbursts of murderous humanitarianism.
